So, French is the first official language spoken for 7.9 million Canadians. This large Francophone community is an integral part of the Canadian identity and contributes to its uniqueness. Most Francophones live in Quebec, the centre of French-speaking culture in North America. However, one million Francophones live in vibrant minority communities in other provinces and territories.
